Our great city of St. Louis is home to the Fabulous Fox Theatre and The Muny, which have brought us years of endless entertainment. The shows coming to these local venues in 2017 and 2018 are performances you don’t want to miss. From Broadway classics, to comedies and breakout sensations, a handful of these hits are either new to the theater or have not been back in years. Though you may have enjoyed a night out at either theater before, the upcoming shows will create a completely new and exciting experience for all audiences.


The Lion King at The Fabulous Fox Theatre

April 19-May 7, 2017

The Lion King has not been performed in St. Louis since 2012, but it feels like a lifetime for awaiting fans. Filled with beautiful scenes and memorable songs, this award-winning Broadway phenomenon is a show that you don’t have to be a kid to have a blast watching. Just like the Disney classic, the musical follows a young lion prince named Simba who is first in line to his father’s throne. After his uncle Scar plots and kills Simba’s father, Simba believes it is his fault so he flees the kingdom.  The story focuses on Simba working to discover who he truly is and his role in life. This musical seamlessly brings the beloved animated film to life and will have you singing along the whole night. The Lion King is a spectacle that you truly have to see to believe, so don’t miss your chance!


Newsies at The Muny

August 7-13, 2017

First performed on the Broadway stage in 2012, the impressive musical Newsies is finally making its way to The Muny in Forest Park. After years of waiting to see the unbelievable dance numbers and thrilling plot Newsies entails, audiences will be able to experience the lively show which focuses on the Newsboy Strike of 1899. Based on the 1992 film, the musical follows a rebellious newsboy named Jack Kelly and his friends who take on publishing giant Joseph Pulitzer after the price of papers skyrocket and the boys are left to fend for themselves. With the help of a local reporter, Katherine Plummer, the newsies organize a strike against Pulitzer, and all of New York City soon recognizes the mistreatment and struggles the newsboys face. If you’re looking for an energetic show filled with adventure and fun, Newsies is perfect for you!


Hamilton at The Fabulous Fox

April 3-22, 2018

After its Broadway release in 2015, the revolutionary retelling of the rise of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton has taken the world by storm. Displaying a combination of rap, hip-hop and traditional Broadway-style songs, the dynamic performance is definitely one you cannot miss. Hamilton stayed on Broadway in New York until 2016, and then began to tour in Chicago and eventually San Francisco. Next year, the traveling cast is making its way to several more venues in the United States, including The Fabulous Fox in St. Louis. The story follows Alexander Hamilton and many other well-known American figures as they work to establish the nation and the difficulties that entail. Rise up and see the 11-time Tony Award-Winning musical Hamilton!

Although these shows are not coming to St. Louis for several months, season tickets for both the Muny and The Fox are on sale now and individual tickets will be hitting the box office shortly.
