The SDHS girls varsity volleyball team worked hard all season long and added another big win under their belt last night, defeating Hickman in three sets and setting up a quarterfinal match against Francis Howell Central on Saturday.

We have made so much progress as a team this season, and I 100% believe that we can accomplish that achievement and make program history by going to state back to back”

“I’m very excited for the upcoming games. We have put in a lot of work to get to where we are right now, and I know that we will give it our all. I think people will see how hard we work every day and how much we want this win,” said junior middle hitter Faith Henke.

The next game is crucial for the team to advance to the state championship. The game Saturday will make or break the season.

“During our last three postseason games we have played and won as a team. We all had the energy and drive to want to go to state, and it’s what we are going to need to win our final game this Saturday,” said senior libero Ella Boeding.

The team has really come together over the last few weeks. They have overcome many things together and have fought hard all season long. The team is recognized as a veteran team as they have “grown up” together over the years.

“As the ‘baby’ on the team, I really look up to the older girls, and they have become like big sisters to me. They all make sure that I know that I’ve got the next ball if I make a mistake and they’re my biggest cheerleaders when I score,” said sophomore outside hitter Kayla Robertson.

The girls are all fighting to keep their season alive just a little longer to give their seniors a back-to-back state run, which would be the first in program history.

“Just saying that we want to go back to state is an understatement. Back-to-back years is insane, and I don’t just want it for the seniors and I, but for our whole team. We have made so much progress as a team this season, and I 100% believe that we can accomplish that achievement and make program history by going to state back to back,” said senior setter Rachel Schipper.
