The Varsity Crusader ladies volleyball program is well into their season and is beginning to prepare for their upcoming postseason. The team currently has a record of 14-7-3. They have competed in multiple tournaments and have gone up against some of the top teams in the state and in the country.

The Lady Crusaders have two more weeks left of regular season play. They will go up against teams from St. Joseph’s Academy, Marquette, Incarnate Word, Timberland, and Cor Jesu Academy. One of the biggest games that the girls have left is their senior night against Incarnate Word Academy. The IWA and St. Dominic volleyball rivalry has been alive for years and the seniors are so excited to battle the Red Knights on this special night.

All levels of the volleyball program have worked together to become a better team this year. After a state run last year, expectations are still high for the Crusaders. All of the volleyball players in the program have one common goal; go back to state.

“We need to work together as a team, and stay confident and positive throughout all of our hard, and easy games. If we want to successfully make it back to state, we have to stay focused and have the drive to win,” senior libero Ella Boeding said.

St. Dominic has been led by the same two coaches for several years, the sister duo, Coach Courtney Bland and Coach Maggie Allen. They also have high hopes for their program and are determined to make another state run this year.

“We strive for mental toughness and we focus on it a lot during games. If the girls aren’t mentally tough the game of volleyball will really wear you out. Plays end on you a lot and mistakes are very obvious in volleyball. The girls have to be tough enough to shake off the mistake and be ready to play the next ball with confidence,” Coach Bland said.

The girls are ready to finish the season strong and to make another state run! Make sure to come out and show your support at their game next Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. for senior night against IWA!
