The Duke and Duchess of Sussex recently officially resigned from their roles in the British Royal Family. Despite slowly stepping down from their duties over the past year, the news came as a shock to many, including Prince William.

Just five days after the couple announced their pregnancy with their second child, Buckingham Palace released a statement confirming that Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, will no longer be serving as working members of the royal family.

“Following conversations with The Duke, The Queen has written confirming that in stepping away from the work of The Royal Family, it is not possible to continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service,” the statement Buckingham Palace released expressed.

In response to the statement, a spokesperson for the couple stated that they will continue to live a life of service. Prince Harry and Markle are still committed to supporting the organizations they were involved in, even without an official role.

In preparation for their resignation, the couple moved to Santa Barbara County, California six months ago. They wish to live a more private life with less paparazzi while raising their two children.

Since the move, Prince Harry and Markle have struck deals with multiple large streaming companies including Spotify, Disney Plus, Apple TV Plus, and Netflix. All of the content the couple is creating focuses on inspiring or informing others about nature or mental health.

Meghan Markle is committed to being the narrator of a Disney Plus nature series titled Elephants, while Prince Harry partnered up with Apple Plus to create a documentary series on mental health with Oprah Winfrey.

“He [Prince Harry] is a great partner in helping us decide who we’re going to interview, how it’s going to be interviewed, what subjects we are going to be covering,” Oprah Winfrey said in an interview on Daily Show with Trevor Noah.

The couple has a bright future ahead of them with their partnerships and new addition to the family, even without assistance from The Royal Family. Visit these sites for more information on the couple and their new independent lifestyle!
