Corona Can’t Stop Crusader Spirit: Virtual Spirit Week

Elizabeth Petruso, Staff Writer

Our St. Dominic community may not be together due to the coronavirus, but our Crusader pride continues to live on. Last week, SDHS students and faculty participated in a virtual spirit week on Twitter.

Orchestrated by Literature teacher Mrs. Holden-Nims and her Yearbook class, the virtual spirit week was a huge hit! Twitter feeds were overflowing as students and teachers posted their spirit week pictures every day according to the daily theme.

To hype up the week even more, everyone had the option of sending in their photos to be considered for the yearbook.

Check out below what some of our Crusader family shared on Twitter for the 2020 Virtual Spirit Week!

Monday: Pajama Day

Junior Emily Baird celebrated pajama day with her sister Alyssa, who will be a freshman at St. Dominic next year.
Junior Drew Nicholson transferred after the winter semester, but jumped right into the SDHS spirit.
Sophomore Jacob Moore was serious about sporting his best pajama outfit to kick off the Spirit Week.

Tuesday: Green Shirt Tuesday

Religion teacher Mr. Winkelmann, who introduced St. Dominic to Green Shirt Tuesday, participated in the second day of Virtual Spirit Week.
(Clockwise from top left) Mrs. Schuler, Father Patrick, Mr. Struttmann and Mr. Tock celebrated Green Shirt Tuesday via Zoom.
Not only did the entire Juergensmeyer family show off their green shirts, but they also supported the Gratia house.

Wednesday: Binge Day

Another St. Dominic family, the Findleys, got into the spirit week by posting about their favorite binge snacks.
Freshman Luke Zelnis had a plethora of goodies for the third day of Virtual Spirit.
Our Admin Team even participated! Mrs. Stewart posted some of her favorite treats with #SDHSonline.

Thursday: Celebrate Spring

Mrs. Stewart wasn’t the only one in her house posting for spirit week. Freshman Gavin Stewart enjoyed the outdoors while fishing.
While Stewart went out, the Phillips family enjoyed the sun at home.

Friday: Crusader Friday

Thursday we got out to celebrate the sun, but Friday was back to class. Freshman Tommy Chassanoil wore Crusader gear for online learning.
Mrs. Hagan and her daughter, junior Elli, even included their dog in the Crusader Friday festivities.
Distance Learning can be sad, but sophomore Taytum Scarborough kept up the positivity with her Crusader Friday photo.

Our Virtual Spirit Week kept Crusader pride alive and spirits up! Make sure you continue to post using the hashtag #SDHSTogether to keep our Crusader family together during these trying times.
