The Lady Crusader swim team competed in their final meet of the regular season this past Thursday, February 6. The girls put forth a great effort and had multiple state meet qualifying relay and individual races at the AAA Conference meet. There were 21 girls total that competed in the Conference meet, and the Crusaders took fourth place overall (missing the third place spot by two points) out of nine teams total.

Starting off with relays, the team of sophomore Caroline Cunningham, junior Kallie Nero, junior Ava Kannady and freshman Sydney Pickett medaled in both of their relays with state qualifying times. In the 200 Medley Relay, the team placed second with a time of 2:03.06. In the 400 Freestyle Relay, they placed second again with a time of 1:49.50. The relay team has been working super hard and are looking forward to competing together in the state meet.

Nero and Pickett have been making waves this season, to say the least. The girls have been pushing themselves to their limit, and both have qualified for state in two individual events. Pickett will be competing in the 200 Individual Medley with a qualifying time of 2:16.88 and the 500 Freestyle with a qualifying time of 5:24.02. Nero will be competing in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:02.62 and the 200 Freestyle with a time of 2:04.47.

Swim coach Rachel Imming has been with the girls swim team for the past two seasons, and she couldn’t be more excited for the upcoming state meet and next season.

“This season was so fun! I am extremely proud of all of the girls, as they all showed great improvement,” Coach Imming said.

The Crusader swim team has made huge progress this season and finished with a bang. Be sure to congratulate the ladies on their job well done this season if you see them in the hallways. Also, come out and support our state qualifiers at the state meet on February 20 and 21 at the St. Peters Rec Plex!
