St. Dominic senior Jack Niggemeier proves how hard work can pay off in both the classroom and on the field. This three-sport athlete proves he also excels in academics after receiving his second consecutive Academic All-State award in football this year.

Jack started out his senior year with a record-breaking career and season in football. After breaking the school record for six interceptions, multiple fumble recoveries and even a blocked field goal, he was deservingly awarded 2nd Team All-State DB, 1st Team All-District DB and was even voted to the MFCA All-State Football Team.

“Jack’s position on the football team as a free safety is so cerebral, vocal and physical. It takes a lot of strengths beyond just being a great athlete, and Jack excelled in all those areas. In addition, he brought tremendous leadership to the position as not only did the players trust Jack, but also the coaches… I’ve been privileged to have five All-State Free Safeties in my career and Jack is as good as any I’ve been blessed to coach in those seventeen years,” football coach Blake Markway said.

Currently, Jack is hard at work on the court as basketball season is underway. After scoring 16 points in a winning game against Sullivan, the number eight team in the state, Jack shows how valuable he is to the team.

“Jack is one of the most versatile players I have ever coached because of his ability to play any position on the floor.  Jack has become a leader on and off the floor for us.  He is an extremely hard worker and dedicated to getting better on a daily basis, but in the same sense very humble about his success.  I am very privileged to coach a player like Jack but more importantly get to be apart of the development of such a great young man,” basketball coach Kevin Roberts said.

As the weather starts to warm up, Jack will be finishing up his senior year on the baseball field. He announced that he has committed to William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri for baseball back in October of last year and will be officially signing with the university on February 6, National Signing Day. Although it is his last year at St. Dominic, he is optimistically looking forward to what lies ahead.

“I am going to miss football and basketball the most. There is nothing better than being out on the court or field with your closest friends, with the whole St. Dominic community behind you. However, I can’t wait to be able to play baseball at the next level and have a blast with my new team,” Jack said.

We want to congratulate Jack on all his accomplishments so far and wish him the best of luck on the rest of the senior year, as well as in whatever may come in the future. Be sure to support him and the rest of his team at future basketball and baseball games!
